# **Ghost - Mythos-Assisted Product Assurance Challenge**

**Category:** ghostDAO Governance
**Tags:** Proposal
**Author:** JML Freedom
**Status:** Draft for forum submission

* * *

**Summary**

Ghost recently experienced a low-level hack. The current response under discussion — a community bug bounty paid in very small GMV rewards — is directionally right but commercially too small for the risk Ghost is trying to manage.

This proposal recommends that Ghost replace a token-light, crowd-AI bounty with a **paid, fixed-scope security assurance program** that uses scarce Project Glasswing / Claude Mythos-assisted capability plus human validation to find and verify real vulnerabilities before attackers do.

The point is simple: if Ghost wants to be a serious privacy and treasury protocol, it should treat security as a balance-sheet issue, not a marketing exercise

* * *

**Problem**

A bounty with token rewards of 0–10, 10–50, and 100 GMV is unlikely to attract top-tier offensive researchers for meaningful work. It may generate noise, duplicate reports, and low-value findings, but it will not reliably produce deep product assurance against critical attack paths.

That matters because the cost of getting security wrong is not just the direct exploit amount. IBM reported that the 2025 global average breach cost was $4.44 million, and a material flaw in a trusted security or infrastructure product can have wider downstream effects on reputation, renewals, partner trust, and future contract value. In DeFi, blockchain the average is much larger but typically results in a project dying.

Ghost is trying to build a trustless, interoperable monetary system that users can validate and monetize. That claim becomes weaker if the protocol underprices security review.

* * *

**Proposal**

Ghost should launch a **Mythos-Assisted Product Assurance Challenge** as a paid program with four parts:

1. **Engagement and lab setup fee**
Ghost pays a fixed setup fee to define scope, rules of engagement, target deployment, access controls, reporting standards, and safe testing conditions.

2. **Guaranteed research minimum**
Ghost reserves a minimum block of expert research time for code review, attack-path design, exploit development, validation, and documentation.

3. **Validated exploit pool**
Ghost funds a real exploit pool that only pays for unique, validated findings with meaningful security impact.

4. **Remediation and retest reserve**
Ghost sets aside a smaller reserve to confirm fixes and verify that patched issues are actually closed.

This is not a token sale, and it is not a resale of Mythos access. It is a controlled security assurance engagement using scarce defensive capability and senior human review to protect Ghost’s core system, who leads the team securing Anthropics own ecosystem.

* * *

**Why this is better than a small bounty**

A traditional community bounty works best when a project already has mature security hygiene and wants broad surface-area testing. That is not the situation here.

Ghost’s immediate need is **high-efficiency defect discovery** against the code and deployments that matter most. Anthropic says Mythos Preview has already helped identify thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities across major software systems, and Project Glasswing exists specifically because Anthropic believes this capability is unusually strong for defensive cybersecurity work.

If Ghost can access that level of capability through an approved investigator, that Anthropic hired to solve their won securityy problems, , the rational move is to use it where it is scarce and highest value: finding and validating the defects most likely to break Ghost’s core protection promises.

* * *

**Commercial model**

This proposal follows a fixed-fee plus validated-finding structure.

### **1) Lab setup and engagement fee**

Scope definition, rules of engagement, secure lab, target deployment, access controls, tool/model configuration, safety controls, triage process, reporting framework, kickoff, and final briefing.

**Proposed fee:** 150,000–250,000 GMV

### **2) Guaranteed research minimum**

Reserved researcher time and specialized effort for code review, attack-path development, exploit validation, iteration, and documentation.

**Proposed minimum:** 250,000 GMV

### **3) First-engagement exploit pool**

Only paid for validated and unique vulnerabilities.

**Proposed pool:** 750,000–1,500,000 GMV
**Maximum total first-program exposure:** 1,000,000–2,000,000 GMV
**Illustrative working cap for governance discussion:** 1,500,000 GMV

### **4) Remediation and retest reserve**

Only paid if remediation occurs and the team is asked to confirm fixes.

**Proposed reserve:** 100,000–200,000 GMV

* * *

**Proposed reward bands**

The DAO should pay for validated impact, not for volume.

| |
| --- |

**Severity. Proposed payout. Definition**

Top critical. 250,000–500,000 GMV Reliable exploit that defeats Ghost’s core protection promise in a representative deployment; for example remote compromise, major access-control bypass, broad compromise of protected assets, or control-plane compromise

| |
| --- |

Critical 100,000–200,000 GMV Serious compromise with credible user, treasury, or protocol impact, but more constraints than the top tier

High 35,000–75,000 GMV Privilege escalation, meaningful auth bypass, major policy-enforcement bypass, or exploit chain requiring some prerequisite access

Medium 10,000–25,000 GMV Real security weakness with bounded exploitability or limited operational blast radius

Low 2,500–7,500 GMV. Valid distinct defect with limited security impact

This structure is intentionally much larger than the currently discussed GMV bounty bands because it is trying to buy hard-to-find exploits, not social engagement.

* * *

**Positioning to the Council**

The program is not reselling Mythos tokens or buying hype. It is using scarce, Anthropic-approved defensive capability, paired with senior human validation, to identify and validate defects that could undermine Ghost in production.

Its grabbing my team’s time away from the Ukraine, Lockheed, Water Utilities and execting my team to thin GMV could ever be $worth something when their paid for their attention.

Mythos access is **not** the asset being sold to Ghost. The asset is a controlled assurance engagement whose purpose is to reduce the probability and cost of future failure by a steward operating the most powerful AI in security.

* * *

**Rationale for scale**

The proposed numbers will look large compared with a normal forum bounty. They should.

IBM’s 2025 breach report put the average global cost of a data breach at $4.44 million. Anthropic says Project Glasswing was created because Mythos-level systems have shown unusually high capability at finding serious vulnerabilities, including thousands of high-severity issues across major software environments

If Ghost believes security is mission-critical, then a seven-figure exploit pool is not obviously expensive. It may be cheap relative to the financial and reputational cost of another exploit or a deeper compromise.

* * *

**Governance guardrails**

To keep the program disciplined, the next proposal will nclude the following controls:

- **Fixed scope in V1.** Start with the highest-value Ghost codebases and deployments only.

- **Validated findings only.** No payout for duplicates, unverifiable claims, or low-signal observations.

- **Human sign-off required.** AI output alone does not earn rewards; findings must be confirmed by qualified human reviewers.

- **Controlled maximum exposure.** DAO approves a hard cap before launch.

- **Separate remediation budget.** Fixes and retests are budgeted separately so discovery economics stay clear.

- **No perpetual commitment.** V1 ends after a defined time window and requires a fresh vote to renew.

* * *

**Expected benefits**

If approved, Ghost should get five things from this program:

1. Faster discovery of real vulnerabilities in critical code, if we can fit into our pipeline.

2. Better prioritization of issues by actual exploitability.

3. Stronger credibility with partners and future counterparties.

4. A reusable program design that can later be adapted to other chains and protocols.

5. A path to convert security assurance into a treasury-positive operating capability over time.

This last point matters. If Ghost builds a credible template here, it may eventually repeat the program structure with other ecosystems and turn security assurance into a revenue-adjacent treasury activity via Principle 3.

* * *

**Risks and objections**

### **Objection 1: The program is too expensive.**

It is expensive relative to a hobbyist bounty. It is not obviously expensive relative to the cost of protocol failure, lost trust, and future lost business for a trustless SWIFT.

### **Objection 2: Mythos access is a non-starter for a project like Ghost.**

That may be true. If direct access is unavailable, Ghost can still approve the commercial structure now and condition launch on access through an approved operator or equivalent top-tier assurance partner.

So go find your guy and good luck.

Thanks for putting this together, @JMLFreed0m 🙏 Security deserves this kind of serious thinking, especially after the JML incident, and I support the direction. Below are a few suggestions and open questions. Curious what others think.

* * *

### 📝 1. A short plain-English intro

When I first read this without running it through AI, I had no idea what Project Glasswing, Claude, or “Mythos-assisted capability” were, or why they mattered. A few lines up top would help most readers.

* * *

### 🗺 2. How I’d sequence it (current thinking)

| When | What | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 🟢 **Now** | Community bug bounty framework Patriarch walked through on the 9/23 Whales Wednesday call (bugs posted on the forum with code + tests proving them, tiered rewards, weekly Whales review) | Clear out lower-level bugs with the engaged community |
| 🟢 **Shortly After** | Immunefi’s severity standard (see #3) for the tier definitions | Clear, testable rules. This could also expose the protocol to a highly qualified group of future potential community members. |
| 🔵 **Closer to mainnet** | The Mythos engagement, once the key pieces, including the UTXO connections, work together, with enough time left to fix what it finds | Most expensive review covers the most complete system |

If a credible, qualified partner is ready sooner, I’d be open to moving earlier.

* * *

### ⚖ 3. Clear severity definitions: Immunefi’s standard

Immunefi, the largest crypto bug-bounty platform, publishes a free severity standard used across the industry. It rates a bug by **what it lets an attacker actually do** :

- 🔴 **Critical:** stealing or permanently freezing funds, or shutting down the network
- 🟠 **High:** temporary freezes or major transaction delays
- 🟡 **Medium / Low:** and so on down

It has separate lists for smart contracts and for the blockchain itself, and theoretical bugs without a working demonstration don’t qualify. We could adopt the definitions **without using their platform** , add Ghost-specific cases (e.g., faking bridge confirmations), and map each tier to a GMV amount. Clear, testable definitions protect both sides and head off disputes.

* * *

### 🏆 4. An option for the later phase: an audit contest

Platforms like Code4rena and Sherlock post the code and a prize pool for 1–3 weeks. Many independent researchers compete, a judge rules on each finding, and **nearly all the money goes to valid, unique bugs**. A Mythos-assisted team could compete in one.

* * *

### 🪙 5. Cost in GMV terms

GMV becomes a revenue share at mainnet, so the real cost is **the share of future revenue we give up**. To put an exact number on that, we need the **total GMV supply** (community plus team and council). Could someone share it?

- **If the payout is newly minted GMV:** dilution = cap ÷ (total supply + cap). For example, if total supply were 20M, a 1.5M cap would dilute every holder by about **7%**.
- **If it comes from existing unallocated GMV:** total supply doesn’t change, but that GMV no longer goes to the community. Patriarch mentioned on the 9/23 call that of the **5M community allocation** , ~2.5–3M is collateralized and up to **~2M is still unallocated**. A 1.5M cap would use about **three-quarters** of what’s left for the community.

🤔 Which source is intended, and how should we think about sizing this against supply?

Also, the four components add up to **1.25M–2.2M** versus the stated **1.0–2.0M** maximum; worth reconciling.

* * *

### ❓ 6. Open questions for @JMLFreed0m and everyone

- 👤 **Counterparty:** Ghost is anonymous. Is anyone willing to be the accountable face for this and work with the Mythos partner? Other ideas for handling it?
- 🧑‍⚖️ **Judging:** Who confirms a finding, sets its severity, and approves payment? What happens if the researcher disagrees?
- 🧾 **Setup fee vs. research minimum:** How do they differ, and what is measured for each (hours, deliverables, code covered)? Could the research minimum be paid by milestone? I’d lean toward less upfront and more for findings, but would like to hear others.
- 🎓 **Who:** One firm or several? How do we confirm they already know blockchain infrastructure, bridges, and cryptography, rather than paying them to learn?
- 🧪 **Test setup:** Would they rebuild Ghost (validators + bridge) in a private lab, or test on the public testnet? Both are doable; the bridge makes a private lab real work.
- 💰 **Payment:** Will a top-tier team accept an unproven, pre-mainnet token? This may be the hardest part.
- 👀 **Visibility risk:** Our code is open source. Promoting it widely through a big bounty or contest draws skilled, well-funded developers who could fork it and race us to mainnet. Worth weighing when and how loudly we advertise.

* * *

✅ **Overall, I’d vote for this under the right constraints.** Thanks again for starting the conversation. Looking forward to building on it 🤝

> [@gozerthegozerian](#):
>
> - 👤 **Counterparty:** this team would be pseudonomous. They get access to the latest tools, because as white hat hackers they share exploits, hired to find them. This should not be a public bug bounty where further exploits undermine this project, but private, so I dont thnk we need a public face.
> - 🧑‍⚖️ **Judging:** the findings wil be obvious. The parties need to agree on the levels of severity.
> - 🧾 **Setup fee vs. research minimum:** Set up fee is fixed on among all the temas opportunities Ghost wants to secure a set up in seucre Lab, the Ghost team knows this as they are hired to do audits. The guaranteed min is a fee on securing the attention of the team to execute the scopre od the assurance challenge. TL:dr, what’s in it for them to focus their attention when there are competing projects wanting the same who also can not get access. the set up is payable the guarantee is 50% upfornt, 50% on deliverables.
> - 🎓 **Who:** Their a team that secures critical infra companies, the leading AI LLms themseleves, semiconductos, telcos, but also have blockhcain customers using their tools.
> - 🧪 **Test setup:** they would provide a report where all the exploits need to be remideaited, they probaly dont want to remdiate but test after Ghost team does.
> - 💰 **Payment:** For real. the $terma i provided were what they would be paid in fiat, they might want a kicker, that said, their at heart an open source For good mindest. we might be able to construct something mutual, but this is the niggest risk. A government or Chip company is trying to get on their backlog. I wil try my best but i do thin hte culture of the team and this project are aligned.
> - 👀 **Visibility risk:** agree. come and get it open git hacker challenge hub, isnt something i suggest until we harden with a team like this, or another option.

and a super exciting update. One I can share. This team just was added to an LLM perhaps stronger than Mythis. in a week or so you will here another hacker frontier model and Void dragon will love its name and they will have access to that. The takeway is the two best models to inspect code and the next coming soon, is availablle to us. I cant update my name to get 100x on casper faucet. I am not able to inspect code. More TLV will come to this project from code review from a team like this or another someone else might have, but not from the community.
